Byron Duff
Lt. Duff was one of the original cadre of A-7 pilots in Attack Squadron 15. He returned to the squadron as the Commanding Officer, Cdr. Duff.
Byron L. Duff, 73, of Cobbs Creek, took his final flight on Saturday, September 2, 2017 He was born and raised in Illinois and received his degree from the University of Illinois in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering. Byron lived life fully and particularly enjoyed his sailing years which included a six month cruise on the intercoastal waterway and a trip to the Bahamas. Byron was a jet pilot in the Navy for 25 years and loved it! One of his many diverse tours was as an exchange pilot with the British Air Force, stationed in Germany. Another was as a student in the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School in Edwards Air Force Base, CA. He received numerous awards. Included among many others, were the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross and the “Tailhooker of the year” in 1987. Byron is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nan, and sons Gary (Doug) and Matt (Katie) as well as his wonderful grandchildren Emersyn, Lyla, Lainey, Kaelyn and Gavin. Additionally, he is survived by his father, Ronald Duff and brother Jeffrey Duff. He was predeceased by his mother
